The Paseo Arts District The Historic Paseo Arts District, built in 1929, has served as Oklahoma City’s artist community since the 1970s. Throughout its colorful past, Paseo has undergone several transformations. In the 1930s, the Elm’s Apartments were the place to view the art of the avant-garde in Oklahoma City. During the 1950s, Paseo was a recreational and retail area that included the popular attraction, “Paseo Plunge,” a community swimming pool. The 1960-70s brought the hippies, bohemians, artists, and visionaries to the area. Currently, the Paseo is enjoying a renaissance since the 1980s. Today, a vibrant group of artists and other interested people are transforming this community through creative thinking and arts activities.
